What's involved in a Cardio Exercise Program?

A Cardiovascular Exercise Program can also be known as "huffy puffy" exercise. This will require you to get a sweat up.

Cardiovascular means of the Heart and Blood Vessels. It is a key element in transporting and exchanging oxygen, carbon dioxide, nutrients and waste. Your main aim when performing cardio exercise is to elevate the heart so the muscles become stronger.

This of course requires you start off at a lower intensity and build up. This type of exercise helps to protect the body against cardiovascular disease. Plus will have positive effects on blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

A Cardiovascular Exercise Program also uses Fat as the main fuel for generating movement through the muscles. So when performed at the correst intensity; Fat Loss will occur.

A 'rule of thumb' to follow: If you are not getting a sweat up when training then you are not doing enough -  That is of course if wanted your results yesterday!

To be more exact, your Target Heart Rate needs to be between 50% and 70% of your maximum. A quick easy way to work out yours:

Fred is 42 years old. His maximum heart rate works out to be.
220 - 42 = 178 beats per minute.
Fred's average heart rate works out to be between 89-125 beats per minute. (you will find that most cardio equipment will make measuring this very simple)
